1. HOW DEPENDENT ON ELECTRICITY AM I?
Of course we all depend on it for the basic necessities of life: heating, cooling, lighting, refrigeration, water. The question is... Are you willing or able to be without it for 2 or 3 days, or longer, in the case of some major outages, such as hurricanes and ice storms?

Working from home?
Just how much does down-time really cost me?

Do I have vital needs?
The elderly or those with medical conditions simply cannot be without electrical power.

Do I have critical devices?
Security systems, well-water pumps, and sump pumps require 100% availability.
What is family and property security worth?

You don't know WHEN outages might occur, only that they WILL occur.
Is constant, uninterrupted power a luxury or a necessity for you?

2. WOULD I PREFER A PORTABLE OR PERMANENT GENERATOR?

Portable Kohler
Must be manually set up, connected, started, and shut down. Permanently installed - automatic, hands-free operation.
Homeowner must be home to have back up protection. System operates automatically whether home, or not.
Must be manually fueled, and refueled, for an extended outage. Fuel storage and spoilage a concern. Hard piped to the home’s fuel supply, runs continuously. No fuel storage concerns.
Limited power output. Worry free, continuous power – sized to meet home demands, up to 100,000 watts of power.
Noisy, open to the weather. Weather enclosure also filters noise. Quieter than most A/C units.

3. DO I WISH TO POWER THE WHOLE HOUSE OR JUST SELECT DEVICES?
For essential loads, a moderate-size unit can be used to run only those devices that you pre-select. A larger generator can be sized to accommodate the entire electrical load of your house. During the site electrical survey, your local dealer will evaluate your needs and select the proper size unit.

4. HOW BIG IS IT?
Again this depends on the amount of power you select. A 12,000 watt KOHLER residential generator unit is just slightly larger that a typical central A/C unit and can handle most of a home’s essential loads. Your local dealer can provide further details.

5. WHAT FUEL CAN I USE?
Our dealers offer KOHLER residential generators that operate on natural gas, LP (propane) or diesel fuel. Natural gas or LP is the easiest, cleanest and quietest choice for most homeowners. For those who do not have utility natural gas service, you dealer will help you coordinate with a propane supplier.

6. HOW LOUD IS IT?
Small portable generators (also known as “screamers”) have created the myth that all generator systems are unbearably loud. Not true. Kohler home generators are enclosed by sound insulated weather housings that are designed to be outdoors 100% of the time, just like you’re A/C unit. The 12,000 watt generator purrs at very quiet 65 DECIBELS – most A/C units are actually louder than this.

7. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Final costs are of course subject to a site survey and professional estimate by you dealer. Project cost is highly dependent on the nature of your site and current state/arrangement of your home’s electrical system and could vary substantially. Please contact your dealer for an estimate at no obligation.

8. HOW SOON CAN I GET ONE?
The smaller systems are usually in stock. Exceptions can occur, however, especially during hurricane season and other storm events – so PLAN AHEAD – if you wait until the storms arrive, you may have waited too long!

Systems over 30,000 watts are subject to a standard factory lead-time of about 8 weeks. Again, PLAN AHEAD – get in touch with your local dealer today!

9. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS OF YOUR DEALERS?
All of our dealers are FACTORY-trained by KOHLER®, at the company headquarters in Kohler, Wisconsin. They are fully qualified for: site electrical surveys, equipment sizing and selection, product sales, delivery, installation, start-up, warranty, parts, and long-term service and maintenance.

When choosing a generator supplier/installer, be sure to ask if the company or retail store that is selling the generator will ALSO be responsible for its installation, service and parts. This may not be the case – creating conflicts and headaches for YOU.

With KOHLER® you have ONE, single-point contact who has full responsibility for every aspect of your residential generator project - now, and as long as you own it.
